Many times, patients come to see me, expressing the desire for a radiant “glow” on their skin. It’s intriguing as the term “glow” isn’t explicitly mentioned in our medical textbooks. Yet, we all understand what it signifies – that beautiful radiance on a pregnant woman’s face, the flush after exercising, and naturally flawless skin with an even tone, smoothness, and a dewy quality even without makeup.
We all yearn for it and go to great lengths to find our “glow.”
As a Dermatologist, guiding people’s skin towards that coveted glow is no easy task. It all commences with lifestyle modifications. I often tell my patients, the skin mirrors our overall body health; it reflects what we eat.
Regular exercise is another significant factor impacting the skin. Anything that gets your heart pumping for 20 minutes, three times a week, enhances blood supply, especially to the face. This, in turn, boosts the skin’s capacity to rejuvenate effectively.
Here's what you can do to attain that coveted GLOW:
- Exfoliate: If you don't have active pimples, exfoliate your skin with a scrub once every 15 days. For a more professional approach, visit the Dermatologist. We deploy various tools, including chemical peels, hydra facials, oxy facials, carbon laser facials, microneedling, etc.
- Sun Protection: Avoid sun exposure, as a tan can make the skin appear dry and dull.
- Hydration: Wash your face with cold water 4-5 times a day.
- Massage: Gently massage your face in an upward direction with a moisturizer or night cream.
- Minimal Makeup: Less is more. Sometimes, allowing the skin to breathe with minimal makeup can make a significant difference.
- Clean Masks: Wash reusable cloth masks after each use, especially if they are tight-fitting for better protection.
Dietary Essentials
- Include nuts like almonds and walnuts.
- Consume antioxidant and Vitamin C-rich foods like papaya, oranges, guava, and amla. Opt for seasonal fruits.
- Ensure adequate water intake – 3 liters or more as required.
- Incorporate good proteins like nachni/ragi, dal, sprouts, eggs, or lean meats like chicken.
And most importantly, a happy you translates to a happy skin! Smile, and you will glow, no matter what.
